Wu Liqi Secures Tianjin’s Only Wildcard for National A-level CompetitionRecently, Wu Liqi, an English major from the School of International Studies, passed the Advanced ETIC Test and won a wildcard to the national finals of the 2026 “FLTRP · ETIC Cup” National College Foreign Language Proficiency Contest—Understanding Contemporary China. She is the sole contestant in Tianjin advancing to the national stage via the wildcard channel. This achievement recognizes her strong foreign language ability and marks a new breakthrough for the School in this competition’s wildcard track. Wu’s success came from persistent efforts amid setbacks. Starting with the Intermediate ETIC in her freshman summer, she obtained a good grade through practice and oral simulations. Inspired by FLTRP expert lectures, she aimed for the Advanced ETIC but failed her first attempt due to inadequate preparation. With encouragement from her family and guidance from her supervisor Wang Youjia, she analysed weaknesses and restarted training. She polished her public speaking and practiced reading, writing and speaking tasks with official mock resources. In May, she qualified for the “21st Century Cup” national finals and earned a good score in Advanced ETIC. While preparing for the university contest, she unexpectedly received the wildcard offer from the ETIC Test Centre. She believes perseverance is the foundation of every gain. Wu’s achievement results from her dedication and her supervisor’s guidance, and exemplifies the School’s progress in teaching reform and talent cultivation. Following the university’s Top TUST Initiative, the School cultivates interdisciplinary foreign language talents with patriotism, global vision and professional competence. Regular competition workshops and language practice platforms enable students to learn through contests and improve their language and international communication skills. Going forward, the School will keep promoting foreign language education, encouraging more students to join high-level competitions, sharpen their expertise and tell China’s stories well, contributing to the university’s development as a multidisciplinary, distinctive and high-level research university. |
