To fully leverage the rich experience of retired faculty and support the research development of young teachers, the Committee of Concerned for the Next Generation (CCNG) at the SFL recently organized an experience-sharing session. Retired professors Wang Zhenping and Xia Tongzhi engaged in dialogue with young faculty, focusing on the inheritance of teaching and research expertise, thereby building a bridge for intergenerational transmission of educational wisdom.

Centered on the theme of “Inheriting Teaching and Research Achievements and Fostering the Growth of Young Teachers”, Professors Wang Zhenping and Xia Tongzhi generously shared their extensive experience in foreign language research. Professor Wang began by discussing topic selection techniques and methods for literature accumulation in foreign language and literature studies. He shared practical insights from his experience in applying for research projects and writing academic papers, emphasizing particularly the research approach of “starting small and digging deep”. He encouraged young teachers to strive for excellence and specialization within niche fields.Professor Xia focused on research in foreign language teaching methodology and intercultural communication. Drawing on her years of research achievements and case studies, she explained how to deeply integrate teaching practice with research innovation. She also provided concrete suggestions on research team building and academic resource utilization, highlighting the importance of “team building”.

During the exchange, young teachers actively asked questions, engaging in in-depth discussions with the two senior professors on challenges encountered in teaching and research, as well as career development planning. Questions such as “How can one balance time between teaching and research?” and “How can young teachers precisely define their initial research directions?” were addressed with patience and personal anecdotes by Professors Wang and Xia. Their sincere sharing and valuable advice deeply inspired the young faculty.

Zeng Zhaoye, Party Secretary of the SFL and Director of the CCNG, stated that this sharing session is a key initiative by the committee to promote the “passing the torch” (mentorship) program. Its aim is to facilitate the rapid growth of young teachers by inheriting the teaching and research wisdom of retired faculty, thereby strengthening the talent foundation for the school’s research development. Participating young teachers expressed that they had gained motivation and clarity on their development paths from the session. They pledged to take the senior faculty as role models, persevere in their teaching and research endeavors, and contribute their youthful energy to the discipline development of the SFL.

This experience-sharing session was not merely a transfer of teaching and research methods, but also a relay of educational passion. The CCNG of the SFL has put its mission of “caring for the next generation” into concrete action, ensuring that the achievements and educational wisdom of retired teachers continue to shine among the younger generation. This event also stands as a significant measure to effectively implement the “Top Tust Action”, allowing the Top Tust spirit to shine brightly along the lineage of educational inheritance.
