The 15th “Shangyan Forum” lecture of the SFL successfully heldMon Oct 28 09:57:53 CST 2024To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the 66th anniversary of the founding of TUST and the 20th anniversary of the construction of Binhai Campus of TUST, Professor Liu Jian from the Japanese Department of Capital Normal University was invited to deliver a lecture entitled “Japanese Learning and Exploration from the Perspective of Cultural Experience” hosted by Yang Zhenzhen and co-sponsored by the Base of Theoretical System of Socialism with Chinese CharacteristicsResearch Center, the Social Sciences Department and the SFL of TUST,, attracting enthusiastic participation from numerous teachers, graduate studentsand undergraduates. Professor Liu provided an insightful analysis of the close relationship between language and culture, emphasizing the importance of culture in understanding the deeper meanings of language by stating that culture is the foundation of social habits and beliefs. When discussing the characteristics of Chinese characters, Professor Liu pointed out their status as one of the oldest and continuously used scripts in the world, along with their historical influence in China and East Asia. She also specifically mentioned the importance of Chinese characters in other languages such as Japanese, noting that many modern Japanese words derive from Classical Chinese, which has experienced its own unique development in both China and Japan over time. Regarding the challenges faced by Japanese learners, Professor Liu offered several suggestions. For example, emphasis should be placed on understanding and learning languages through specific cultural contexts; we should strengthenthe cultivation of cross-cultural communication skills; and we are encouraged to break away from traditional single learning modes by integrating cultural education into language teaching to enhance students’ interest and understanding of the targeted language. After the lecture, participating teachers and students engaged in in-depth discussions with Professor Liu on issues related to the Japanese language and culture. This lecture, by deeply exploring the relationship between cultural experience and Japanese language learning, not only enriched the knowledge structure of the faculty members and the students but also helped in promoting the dissemination of our excellent culture, enhancing cultural confidence, and improving international communication capabilities. |
